Meet Our Coaching Staff
Camp Fortune Ski Club is proud to have over 40 of the most passionate and qualified ski coaches in the National Capital Region.
Patrick Biggs, Program Director
I began my years at Camp Fortune as a little Nancy Greener in 1989 and have been involved with the club either as a racer or coach ever since. It was with great pride that I announced my retirement from Professional Alpine Ski Racing in the fall of 2012 after skiing with the National Team for 8 seasons, through 2 Olympics, and 8 world cup seasons. Upon retirement, I immediately began working with the programs at Camp Fortune, and spent one year as technical advisor, and one year as U14 lead coach and Club President. It’s with great excitement that I am able work with such a world class club, and to pass along the knowledge I have acquired from clubs and teams around the world to the next generation of ski racers in our region.
Jason Strube, U10 Lead Coach
Hi, My name is Jason Strube. I have been coaching at Camp Fortune for 10+ years and I have been active within the ski industry for over 20 years. Coaches have a great influence on their athletes. I love coaching because I am passionate about the sport of ski racing and I enjoy coaching athletes at a young age. I feel as coaches we play an integral role in an athlete’s development and exposing the children’s knowledge at the early stages of ski racing in all areas of the skills progression is key while having a “fun while learning approach” . I have led many athletes at young ages to higher race programs and some as coaches for our club. Alpine skiing is fun and I believe in creating a safe environment. Seeing smiles on the athletes faces when they have given their best effort and achieved success in something they have worked hard toward is a great accomplishment. In 2014, Jason was awarded the CFSC Alex MacDougall Coaching Award in recognition of commitment to the sport. He is a CSCF Development Level (Level 2) Coach, CSIA Level 3, and Ski Official Level 2.
Shawn Banfield, U14 Lead Coach
Shawn has been actively involved in the ski industry for 18 years. He started as a Ski Instructor at Camp Fortune and quickly moved into Coaching. In his 18 years as a Ski Professional, his drive for professional development has enabled him to achieve a Level IV Certification with the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance and Level III Certification with the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation. That drive continued with becoming a Course Conductor for the C.S.I.A. and Facilitator Guide for the C.S.C.F. where he was able to further help fellow Ski Professionals in achieving their own Professional Development goals. As a ski coach Shawn has worked with athletes from Nancy Green all the way to U18. Many of the athletes that he has worked with have moved on to Regional and Provincial Teams. He has also represented Camp Fortune Ski Club as a Provincial Coach at National and International events.
