Sun Peaks Fall Training Camp

Overview

This camp offers a kick-start to the season (typically mid-November – early December) . Structured sessions are aimed at slowly progressing the athletes back onto their skis with a focus on balance, timing, and stance. The majority of the sessions are free skiing and drills.  There will be daily training courses set that will focus on building proper form and technique. Athletes will be training alongside athletes from all over the country at one of western Canada’s premier training sites. In the afternoons and evenings, athletes will be kept busy with homework sessions, ski tuning clinics, and dryland training.

LODGING

Lodging has been arranged at Nancy Greene’s Cahilty Lodge. Various rooms are available with either double or triple occupancy. Rooming requests can be made, but final decisions for rooming will be made by the travelling coaches. (Chaperoned)

THE VILLAGE

The Village at Sun Peaks is small and easy to Navigate. Our lodging at the Cahilty is ski-in ski-out, or a 5 min walk to the main ski lift. Tuning rooms are located in the underground garage of the Cahilty. Shops, restaurants and various other boutiques are located in the walking village.

THE MOUNTAIN

At Sun Peaks ski resort in November, you’ll expect long, wide open terrain for free skiing, training lane space everyday, and no crowded slopes, no line ups. Sun Peaks was the host of fall training for the Austrian Ski Team for over a decade. The best in the world chose Sun Peaks for a reason. With a
dedicated premier training center and state of the art snow making, quality is guaranteed. The Village is located at the base of the main lift that takes us to the training center. Everything is within walking distance.

THEORY BEHIND THE CAMP

Camp Fortune Ski Club aims to ensure that any child entering the alpine ski racing system is provided with the necessary building blocks to achieve their personal best, with some reaching the highest level of achievement in our sport. Developing ski racers in Ottawa has its advantages and disadvantages. We’re fortunate to have our ski hills so close, but our limited terrain and short season play to our disadvantage when compared to many other clubs from around the world. It’s been well documented in such publications as Alpine Canada’s AIM to Win guide that the number of days on snow at a developing age plays a large role in the success rate of developing world class ski racers. I would take it one step farther, and say that it’s not only the number of days on snow, but also quality, and focused days on snow that develops such skiers.

Our goal with this camp is to offer additional days on snow at the front end of the season in an environment that has a high likelihood of top quality conditions, and be surrounded by other driven racers with the same goals and focus.
